-
Large pieces of butter should no longer be visible.
-
Pour mixture into a large mixing bowl and create a well in center.
Step 3: Mix the Wet Ingredients
-
In a bowl, whisk together chilled pumpkin puree, buttermilk, egg, vanilla extract, and honey.
-
Pour mixture into the well in the flour and butter mixture.
-
Stir mixture with a wooden spoon to incorporate.
-
Knead in the bowl, or on a work surface, by hand several times to bring mixture together.
Step 4: Shape and Cut the Scones
-
Dust a work surface with flour, then invert dough onto surface.
-
Pat and shape dough into an even 8-inch round.
-
Using a large knife, slice into 8 equal wedges.
-
Dust knife with flour as needed while cutting, because the dough will be fairly sticky.
Step 5: Bake the Scones
-
Transfer scones to a Silpat or parchment paper lined baking sheet.
-
Brush tops with 1 TBSP heavy whipping cream.
-
Bake in preheated oven 13-15 minutes, until tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
-
Transfer to a wire rack and cool 10 minutes before spreading with glaze.
Step 6: Make the Glaze
-
In a mixing bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and heavy whipping cream.
-
Add more heavy whipping cream as needed to reach desired consistency.
-
The glaze should not be too runny.
-
Spoon and spread mixture over scones to evenly coat tops.
-
Let glaze set at room temperature.
Step 7: Make the Pumpkin Icing
-
In a mixing bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, pumpkin puree, Milford Spice Company MiMom’s Pumpkin Pie Spice , and heavy whipping cream.
-
Transfer mixture to a small Ziploc bag and seal bag.
-
Cut a small tip from the corner and drizzle mixture over tops of scones.
-
Allow icing to set before serving.

Why This Recipe Works
These pumpkin spice scones work because cold butter creates a tender, flaky texture, while pumpkin puree keeps the inside soft and moist. Milford Spice Company MiMom’s Pumpkin Pie Spice adds warm cinnamon, ginger, clove, and nutmeg flavor, and the two glazes give the scones a sweet bakery-style finish.
Make It Your Way
-
For extra spice: add a small extra pinch of MiMom’s Pumpkin Pie Spice to the pumpkin icing.
-
For less sweetness: use only the pumpkin icing drizzle instead of both glazes.
-
For more texture: add chopped pecans or walnuts to the dough.
-
For a coffee shop style finish: drizzle the pumpkin icing in thin lines across the glazed scones.
